Base is an online gallery founded by Jo Wilton—a curator, collector, and maker who sees art through the eyes of an artist. With a background in Fine Art and over a decade of experience in the antiques and contemporary design worlds, Jo has spent her life in close conversation with beautiful objects which shape our lives. Now, she brings that journey full circle.

Base is a platform for artists, working in Britain, who deserve to be seen. A hub where everyday collectors can build and grow their own art collections. A home which looks to the past to celebrate our roots, while staying firmly in the present. We are an online gallery specialising in modern and contemporary art made in Britain—spanning the bold works of the past to the most compelling voices working now.

Jo sees art from a maker’s perspective. She looks for depth of narrative, timelessness, and work that speaks for itself. Each piece is chosen for its ideas, its honesty, and its ability to connect. Art talks to the parts of ourselves which are timeless and universal whilst telling stories about the space we inhabit - it can connect people across time, language and place; connecting us with hidden parts in ourselves, with each other and even with ideas for the shape of the future.
